Another Year Older

Well, I am officially 35 today (October 8th). I can't believe it. Five more years and I'll be in my forties. That's just too much to think about right now. I'm just going to be content to be in my thirties....

Birthdays sure are hard on a diet. I went back to Weight Watchers last week. I weighed in this week and lost 3.2 lbs. This morning I got to work and now I have brownies and a huge cupcake on my desk. Luckily someone had already been through with macadamia nut cookies this morning. They are killing me!

Vacation 2009

So, this is the second post in one day. Thought I would catch up with this one. Since I wasn't really blogging in the summertime, I missed putting on my vacation photos. We went to Holiday World and camping with our friends the Doyle's. We had such a good time. It was so hot, luckily we could just walk down to the boat and go riding around.

"The Best of Friends"

We had a great time. Good company, good food and lots of fun camping!! Hopefully we can continue this every year.

Funny, but one day we got rained out when going to the Louisville Zoo, so we ended up at the Patton Museum (Brian is such a history buff) in Elizabethtown.

The kids asked the other day when we could go back. You never know what they will enjoy. I thought they would moan about it, but they enjoyed it. It was Father's Day, too, so we decided Brian should get to pick somewhere he wanted to go. Maybe they will like historical stuff (unlike me).

Fair Day

We had such a fun time riding on the float in the parade. I had watched the parade, but this is the first time that I was actually on a float, it was fun. Here's some pics. Lesley was on the float with us, but she requested that I not post her picture on my blog (although it was a good photo)..

After the parade, we traveled over to the exhibit with all the school submissions, Olivia won 1st place with her handwriting and Dalton won 3rd (he was a little upset that Olivia had beaten him). I told him it was a Kindergarten thing, he won 1st place last year and apparently thought he had the best penmanship in the family... think again, little sis isn't far behind her big brother.

Yesterday was parent teacher conferences, it went great. Ms. Lesley said that Olivia was doing great and Dalton's teacher Ms. Monica said that Dalton was going above and beyond and she was having a hard time keeping him challenged. I'm so very OCD about them doing good in school. So, this makes me very happy!! I hope it continues.

Do you ever wish you were more of a Computer Geek?

Because of budgetary constraints here recently at the City, I was moved from my computer job at the BG Police Department to a job with the Information Technology staff that supports all the city departments. This is a huge change for me. I designed databases, generate statitics, ran reports and supported users at the police department. Now, I do all kinds of computer work like replacing hard drives, printers, replacing print servers, create e-mail accounts, etc. plus I still do database work for Police.

I say all that because I wasn't a computer geek. Before I moved jobs, I really never saw the inside of the computer and I had only a general knowledge about how everything worked. Well, now I wish I was one of those techno geeks that just loves this stuff. So, I've been thrust into a world were I am learning so many new things. I don't think I'll ever earn geek status. I'd rather be a good mom, that knows a little about computers. I'm sure most mommies have the same dilemmas....

Fair

Has anyone else attended the fair this year? I might say that it gives me a little bit of the creeps. I must also add that I haven't been to the Edmonson Co. Fair in years. Last year was the first year my kids went to the fair. They went on Fair Day and they went with their grandparents. I have figured out 2 things.

1) I am incapable of riding fair rides anymore (I think I received a mild case of whiplash) and

2) Most the teenagers I saw at the fair scared me to death (tatooes and body piercings, yikes!)

As a christian mother, I think there are so many things now that I see that really freak me out, things I really want my kids to stay away from. It's unreal. I suppose during my generation, there were punk rockers and heavy metal bands that scared parents to death. I guess there will always be something. What's wrong with normal? That's one of my top 10 goals in life.

I guess I will stay with school fair day, it seems like a more kinder, gentler time at the fair....

Happy Birthday Olivia

We celebrated Olivia's Birthday on Saturday at our house with family. She had a great time. I can't believe she is 5 years old and is going to Kindergarten. She asked me if next year, she could invite friends. I've held off as long as possible just having family, but I guess next year I will have some sort of party and invite some of her little friends. I'm probably the only mom that has held out this long. Neither of my children know the difference, I'm sure they are not suffering in any way..

So, again, she had a blast and is still thanking for all the stuff she received. Of course, Dalton was happy that Olivia got Mario Kart for the Nintendo DS, luckily she is good at sharing!!

First Day of School

I can't believe my babies are this big. Kindergarten for Olivia and First Grade for Dalton. Here's a picture outside our house the first day of school...as you will notice they are almost the same height, although Olivia is 20 months behind him. They are growing up so fast.

When I took them to school, they didn't even want for me to walk them in, just drop them off. I never had this much confidence as a child. They must get that trait from Brian...

It's so nice to know that my kids go to a school where I know so many of the parents and teachers. We are truly blessed in that way.
